Realization

So tonight I got online to check my email and had every intension of going to bed by 10:00pm- but here it is after 11pm and I have decided to post a quick message on my blog. I realized tonight that since we have lived in this area for the last two years, I have done absolutely nothing to get to know the girls in my neighborhood that I see on a weekly basis at church. I spent almost an hour reading blogs and looking at pictures and it made me reflect how isolated I have made myself since we moved here. I have maintained a lot of friendships with old basketball teammates from Idaho and Colorado. I have maintained friendships with good friends from the Social Work program- but I have really failed at getting involved and making friends in this area. I want to do better. I want to get together and have Amara (and eventually Sienna) have play dates, while I get to know people. I want people to know me and like me. So my goal is to be a little more outgoing and a little more social because I love people and I need and want friends. I guess that I realized tonight that I am not making enough of an effort to share myself and to invest myself in other people. Why? Because I have been lazy and too consumed with my own personal life. I need to make some changes...

Welcome to the blogging world!

I think it's harder to make friends when you live in a house. It's pretty easy to make friends with someone who lives above you! :) I'll have to remember to make an extra effort when we live in a house. (if we EVER live in a house!)

Cute blog! And going to Outback with no kids sounds like a little slice of heaven. mmmm...

No worries, I'm totally with you on this one! Especially with these two girls I'm lucky if I even get out of the house during the day! I feel like a champ if I’m able to go grocery shopping, but that doesn’t even count as socializing! :)

Hey, I'm glad to see you have a blog. I'm totally with you on the making friends thing. I have gotten to know so many people through the blogs, but I still need to get out and do things with those people.

Wow, you are so insightful! However, I recall you being very good at being a hermit way back when. The only way we could get you out was for some good Mario's or kareoke night. Don't deny your neighbor girls your little performance of "getting down on your knees". ;)

Hey Susan I am just around the corner with a pretty big fenced yard and three kids. Come on over and visit any time. I am usually out in the yard in the evenings just waiting for someone to walk by to have an adult conversation with.

I'm was so glad to get your comment on my blog! I understand completely how you feel. I'm the kind of person that will just kind of sit back and watch the world around me, so I have to make a conscious effort to get to know people. And I must say that getting involved in the blogging world has given me a jump start on getting to know people. So welcome to the internet! And hopefully we'll know each other better soon!

i'm happy you stopped by my blog and even happier that you have a blog!

when i lived in wyoming my husband and myself didn't make ANY friends. we spent 9 months there with out friends. so this time around we have made more of an effort and as a result i have made some very dear friends in our ward. i think we need to get together for dinner some time :) that is my favorite way to get to know people...FOOD. never fails. haha. anyways sorry this is so long! i am just glad you found my blog and that i can now get to know you better.

Sis, I know what you mean. It takes forever to make friends, especially with little ones needing your full time and attention. How I wish I lived closer to you...then I could fill this empty void with you all the time...You are my best friend...YOU! I MISS YOU! You are a great person and I love you tonz!

I hear you. I've lived here six months and still feel like the new kid on the block. My mom used to always quote the saying ... make new friends, but keep the old, one is silver, and the other gold. She would share this quote with me whenever we moved because it was always so hard for me to leave old friend. I understand the need for friends in your neighborhood so good luck there, but remember I'm not to far and always willing to make the drive. Love ya, Joyce

Hey Susan- Your girls are so adorable! I agree that it is super hard to step out and make new friends, but so worth it. I know that the friend I have made at church and in the neighborhood have been such a great example to me. Plus they get me through the days where being a mom is sooo hard!

If you haven't been putting yourself out there to make some new friends then you REALLY need to because you have a lot to offer and somebody has missed out because you haven't been their friend - you know what I mean? I bet you don't even show off how funny you are. You get out there and start showing off.
Love ya Sus!
Wouldn't it be a dream world if all of our teammates lived in a giant culdesac together with a bball hoop and we just played and played and played??

Hey Sus, thought I drop by and see how you were doing! When it comes down to it...family is all that matters anyway. Even in little Hamer, I've lived here 6 years and don't know some people. But I get to spend time with a lot of family. And I'm okay with that. I hope that everything is going well with you! Love ya

I am with you on this one. I have lived in my house for three years now and I am just getting to know people around me. I really want to try too!! Part of it is because we work.

Hey cousin! I use to feel like I was the only person like that....feeling all alone...but as I started making a little effort in making friends (which I am still trying to do) I saw that a lot of women feel that way. I think making friends was easier when I was younger because I didn't have a family to be in charge of...I didn't have to work full time...so as we get older we get wrapped up in our own lives...but I am with you...I need to be better! Love you!
